A link between marijuana and testicular cancer

A recent US study showed a link between marijuana use and testicular cancer. It was not a very powerful study, being limited in number and relying on a survey, but it has led to further interest in the area.

Testicular cancer is a common form of cancer, especially in young men. Although many cases are curable, some aggressive forms lead to rapid death. The study showed that marijuana use was most associated with the aggressive forms of testicular cancer.

The study is flawed in that it relied on a survey of marijuana use. Cancer sufferers were questioned on their use of marijuana. As most scientists are aware, when you use a questionnaire, you are relying on the person’s innate honesty and recall. They may also be influenced by their own prejudices if they were informed about the need for the questionnaire.

Marijuana has been known to cause many detrimental effects. The latest study could only add fuel to the fire of debate on the use of marijuana and its potential legalization. Hopefully, more young men may consider all the harmful effects before choosing to light up that joint.
